What We Want
Re:AL is looking for poetry, fiction, and nonfiction works of all genres. We want your realism, your mysteries, your horrors, your fables— if you are proud of it, we want it.
We gladly accept works in translation, as well as visual works such as photography and graphic novels.
We value submissions of all kinds, including works by writers and artists that identify with underrepresented and/or historically silenced communities.
Each issue contains a section for a local East Texas writer’s work. If you are an East Texas writer, please let us know.
What We Don’t Want
At this time, we are not accepting academic essays or reprints of previously published works.
We do not accept the work of current Stephen F. Austin State University faculty and students. If you are an SFA alumn, you may submit to the magazine no less than three years after your graduation.
Submission Guidelines
We ask for only one submission per contributor. Please wait to hear from us before sending another submission.
Please include a cover letter with your email address and a brief publication bio.
Prose Guidelines
We aim to publish prose pieces of up to 5,000 words, but we will consider pieces up to 10,000 words.
Poetry Guidelines
If you are looking to submit poetry, please submit up to 5 poems in a single submission. Include them all in the same document, with each poem beginning on a new page.
Visual Works’ Guidelines
At this time, we ask that artists and photographers submit no more than one piece for consideration in a single submission.
Publication
All works will be published online.
Once a piece has been published, all rights revert to the author.
